Touchnote has been hacked!
According to an email I just received Touchnote a mobile app that allows you to take images and upload them to there service where they will send out a personalized postcard with you your image and greeting to anyone in the US, has been “victim of criminal activity” (nice way of saying hacked) as of Nov. 4th 2015.
I am not that concerned, I know how web apps are built and most of the information is secure, especially when storing credit card information a company must be PCI Compliant.
Email as follows:
Important update regarding your account
On 4th November 2015, we received information confirming that Touchnote has been the victim of criminal activity, resulting in the theft of some of our customer data.
The data that was accessed included your name, email address, postal address and your Touchnote order history, registered with ian@……com.
Touchnote does not store your full credit/debit card number, expiry date or security code. Therefore, this information was not accessed.
The data that was accessed included the last four digits of your card number (e.g. XXXX XXXX XXXX 1234) which on its own cannot be used for making financial transactions.
As always, though, we recommend you continue to monitor your card statements and report any suspicious transactions to your card provider.
We do not store passwords for Facebook logins
Because you logged in using a Facebook account, we stored no password for your account.
The action that we are taking
We take our responsibility to keep your data safe very seriously. Since we found out about the theft, we have been working solidly to review all our security measures and update our system infrastructure.
We are in contact with the National Cyber Crime Unit which has the responsibility for investigating and finding the perpetrators of such incidents.
Our sincerest apologies
We would like to apologise wholeheartedly for this incident and for any inconvenience to which you are now put.
We are doing everything in our power to see that the perpetrators are identified and brought to justice.
